Giardia and Cryptosporidium are two of the world's most common causes of an intestinal parasitic infection.

Giardia is a diarrhoeal disease caused by a single-celled, microscopic parasite, Giardia intestinalis (also known as Giardia lamblia). Once an animal or person is infected with Giardia intestinalis, the parasite continues to live in the intestines. Because the parasite is protected by an outer shell, it can survive outside the body and in the environment for a long time.

Coconut-shell activated carbon has an exceptionally high micropore density, which means it can absorb more contaminants per gram. Activated carbon blocks made from 100% coconut shells are of higher quality than conventional activated carbon blocks from mass production in China.
