What are PFAS?
PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of industrial chemicals that have been used for decades in products such as Teflon pans, outdoor clothing, firefighting foams, and packaging because of their water-, grease-, and dirt-repellent properties. They are also referred to as "forever chemicals" because they are extremely persistent in the environment and barely break down.

How can PFAS be removed from drinking water?

1. Choose suitable filtration systems:

   • Standard activated carbon filters usually remove only a few long-chain PFAS compounds (e. g. PFOA, PFOS, trifluoroacetic acid TFA).

2. Use certified filters:

   • Look for NSF/ANSI 53 certifications – specifically for PFAS reduction. Our PFAS Armor filter cartridges from Atlas Filtri meet these requirements!

   • PFOA+PFOS reduction capacity tested with 1.5 µg/l in the inlet water – reduction of at least 95 %. This therefore meets the PFAS reduction criteria according to the NSF/ANSI 53–2021 test protocol.

3. Replace filters regularly:

   • An overloaded or outdated filter can become ineffective or even release contaminants again.

   • Please be sure to follow the replacement intervals recommended by the manufacturer.

As persistent pollutants, PFAS raise significant environmental and health concerns. They must therefore be reliably removed from the water.

The PFAS Armor filter cartridge was specially developed to filter PFOA and PFOS out of the water. In addition, chlorine, taste, odor, and other chemical residues are reliably removed.
