The Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act (ElektroG) implements the EU WEEE Directive on handling electronic waste in Germany.
The ElektroG is intended to ensure that electrical waste is not disposed of in household waste, but is collected separately and recycled.
Through controlled and regulated disposal, the illegal export of used electrical appliances abroad is to be further combated, valuable raw materials are to be reused, and the negative impacts on the environment and health are to be reduced.
In order to dispose of large quantities of electrical and electronic equipment in an environmentally friendly manner, municipal collection points have been established, which had to be equipped with a sufficient number of containers to accommodate the old devices. The further processing and recycling of the old devices are financed by the manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment, who are subject to a registration requirement in Germany.
Obligations to provide information to private households according to § 18 ElektroG
(1) According to § 17 ElektroG, we are obligated to take back used electrical and electronic devices free of charge under the conditions mentioned there. We fulfill this legal obligation through the internet portal interseroh.de. Detailed information on the exact scope of our take-back obligations and the options we have created for the return of old devices can be found via the following link:
>>> Return of old devices <<<
(2) DISPOSAL INSTRUCTIONS: Please remove the filter cartridges from your reverse osmosis system and dispose of them in the household waste before taking the rest of the system to electronic waste!
(3) We inform all owners of electrical and electronic devices that they are legally obligated to dispose of these devices separately from unsorted municipal waste. In particular, the disposal of electrical and electronic devices via the residual waste bin or the yellow bin is prohibited. The symbol of a crossed-out waste bin on wheels, which is displayed below and applied to electrical and electronic devices, additionally indicates the obligation for separate collection.
(4) We inform all owners of electrical and electronic devices that they are legally obliged to remove these old devices, old batteries, and old accumulators "with commercially available tools" by the end user before returning them.
(5) We inform all end users of electrical and electronic equipment that they are responsible for deleting personal data on the devices to be disposed of.
