Is a drinking water filter really necessary?

The number of households in Germany considering buying a drinking water filter for their own use is steadily increasing. But why, exactly? After all, our drinking water is considered one of the safest food products in the country. In recent years, drinking water quality has come under increasing pressure. The reason is high demand. These days, every German citizen uses an average of 130 liters per day, including water for cooking, cleaning, and a daily shower. This high demand puts enormous pressure on public treatment facilities. As a result, there are repeated limitations in quality. Drinking water filters are ideal for counteracting this. They can be retrofitted in any household and are also available for different household sizes. They are also far more thorough than boiling. While boiling does kill bacteria and viruses, many impurities still remain.

Which substances are removed from the water by drinking water filters?

Drinking water filters have various membranes that ensure a wide range of particles can be removed from the water. These include dirt, metal, and color, as well as sand, limescale, and chlorine. But bacteria, medication residues, and pesticides also contaminate drinking water and put a strain on the body.

The right drinking water filters for your needs

To provide the right drinking water filter for every purpose and area of use, various systems have become established. For example, you can choose filters that are used with individual household appliances. But you can also use centrally installed drinking water filters. These ensure that filtered water comes straight from the tap. Drinking water filters that are mounted under the tap are especially popular. They use a carbon block, which removes a large proportion of dirt from the water. To ensure the drinking water filters work reliably, you need to make sure they are replaced regularly. As a rule, a replacement interval of three to six months is required.
